Recent information indicates that the Government is going to move forward in the coming days and introduce copyright reform legislation that has been engineered without proper public consultation and without adhering to its own accountability mandates by failing to table the WIPO treaties for a period of 21 sitting days before introducing the legislation for which these treaties provide the framework for modernizing Canadian Copyright laws.

The CCER feels that this is the right time to make its position clear on Copyright reform in Canada and has decided to do so by drafting a document outlining such and mailing a copy to every MP in the House of Commons. It is not too late to reconsider the dangerous approach currently being taken to copyright reform in Canada. We urge all of you to take a moment and read the paper outlining the CCER’s position on the development of a modernized and balanced Copyright Act.
